If You Were God

Try to imagine being God, or more precisely, being the sum total of all the creative energy in the universe, even the energy of intelligence, and even the energy that is the lifeblood of each and every atom. Some 13.7 billion years ago there was nothing, not even time or space, or so the scientists tell us. And then, in an instant, there was a great explosion, what we call The Big Bang, and suddenly, there was everything, the entire universe in all its glory. You made that happen, and your creative energy continues to permeate every corner of the whole of existence.

Having created the universe, how would you go about confirming that your creation is indeed good? It’s not like you have your mother telling you how great you are. You are God. You are all-powerful. You created something out of nothing. And yet, it is precisely because of your greatness, that you find yourself somewhat alone. In a very real sense, there is no one out there quite like you.

And so, in an effort to confirm the efficacy of your good works, you create life, as a reflection of the life that you’ve breathed into the universe as a whole. And in particular, you create man and woman, in your image no less, so that they could apprehend the nature of your existence, and the wonder of the work that you have wrought. And since you are a creator, and since man and woman are created in your image, then they too are given the power to create the world as they see fit.

And so, having put in place the various pieces of the puzzle, you watch for any signs which show that your creation is indeed good. You were like an artist on a rampage when you created the universe. Just look at the pictures sent back from Hubble. But like any artist, you want your work to mean something, and so, the search for meaning is at the heart of your intent in bringing into existence the whole of creation. And yet, how will the possibility of meaning make itself known?

In your search for meaning, you created man and woman, in your image, so that like you, they could create as well. But you didn’t make it easy on them, did you? In fact, you couldn’t. Your inclination was to believe that meaning could only emerge from the struggle between good and evil. And so, in a way, you stacked the deck against human beings, because you wanted to see how they would do in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. If they could succeed against the odds, then it would be an affirmation to you that your creation was indeed good. That it meant something.

And in recent days, as if to bring history to a head, so to speak, you’ve allowed the pressure to increase, so as to allow man’s destiny to play itself out, once and for all. And so, you watch as global economies begin to tumble. You sigh as the environment is laid to waste. And you probably laugh as the extremists of the world take their ideological positions so seriously. But you are not detached from your creation. You still have a stake in the game. Your sense of self-worth is on the line after all. If man is somehow able to pick up the broken pieces, and to recast himself as “new and improved,” then it will be an affirmation to you that your creation is indeed good, and that as between good and evil, good has the upper hand. At such time, your belief in the possibility of meaning will have been vindicated.

And so, having a legitimate stake in the game, you continue to make your presence known. With little hints along the way, and with puzzling coincidences that are ever more purposeful then they seem at first, you point to the right path for us to follow. As a loving mother nudging her baby to take her first steps, you push us onward, in so many ways, to do what is right, and what is necessary, even as we trip and fall at every turn. You do this because at the end of the day you want to believe that it was not all for naught, and that there is an underlying meaning to the whole of creation, a meaning that is sometimes buried somewhere, but is still waiting to get out.

Many of us lowly humans around the world find our nations’ fabric somewhat tattered and frayed at the edges. Out economies are falling apart. Our environment has been trashed. And the forces of extremism are busy hatching plans for our collective future. It is time to pick up the pieces, and to weave them together in a new pattern, one that is more reminiscent of our founding principles and highest ideals. It is time to help God out to realize the potential for meaning, the meaning that was part of the design, but that has yet to come to fruition. Will we find the courage and the wisdom to use the dire circumstances of our time to remake ourselves in a new light, a light that will shine as a beacon of hope, for all to see, and for all to follow? What do you think?

If I was the God, I would have been playing with the lives of innocent people as the God is playing now through his followers.

If i were god and created a conscious form i would let every conscious form become conscious of earth ,universe and me the creator , but not just 4 out of 10 that every reach some form of consciousness
What then? would i only want 4 out of 10 to know the universe was here ,were they my special ones? or was the universe put in motion and i can’t be in the midst of the flow but stand outside wondering what is happening in one of my many thoughts
If we could create a universe -do you realy think god would only make earth the only place in the universe to form new live -wow what a dizzy animal we are ,our logic can’t rise above superstition and fear and a dilusonary though of our self importance

Wayne, I have no doubt that there are a great many other experiments going on. I just focus on earth, because that’s all I know.

For me, it helps to think of the earth as a satellite floating in space, on which is being conducted an experiment of sorts. You take equal parts of good and evil, add a pinch of common sense, and a whole bunch of nonsense for good measure, and see which way things will go.

That’s the way I see it, at least based on what seems to be going on. I don’t know how it will all turn out, but my guess is that a lot depends on what we decide to do. What we decide will make all the difference in the world, and everything we know and love hangs in the balance.

To get rid of all kinds of religious terrorism propagate the idea” There exists no God”.

A classic self analysis... that each person should do and come to the right path and conclusions.

For a better world and better oneness.

Great post...thanks a lot.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, Hariharan, ”...that each person should do and come to the right path...” That’s what common sense is all about. That’s what makes it all fair. Each of us has been given a good measure of common sense, the collective wisdom born of shared experience, to guide us to the right path. We often choose a different and more selfish path. But common sense is always there, ready to guide us back to what is right, if we so choose. You don’t have to be a scholar, or a prophet. You simply have to search your heart, and use your mind, to uncover the truth, and to allow that truth to guide your way through life. Common sense is the universal moral compass that guides us on the right path, even as we lose our way here and there.

Nathaniel, to say that ”God does not exist,” don’t you first have to know what God is? But no one really knows what God is. So therefore, when we talk about God, we have to first posit an interpretation of what He is, before saying whether He exists or not.

For me, God is not unlike The Big Bang. Whether you say God or The Big Bang, the meaning is still the same. Words are just words. Whatever it was that created the universe out of nothing, is worth calling God as far as I’m concerned.

Imagine, if you will, that 13.7 billion years ago there was nothing, not even time or space. And then there’s this huge explosion, and suddenly there’s everything, the entire universe in all its glory. Is this energy not entitled to be called God?

If you think of God as energy, then His energy is part of you, and your energy is part of Him. Doesn’t that thought help you to make sense of Him, as the sum total of all the creative energy in the universe, the energy that sustains each and every atom in the universe, the energy that permeates your every thought, and that inspires you to do something greater than you had ever thought possible?

So called conscious talks to conscious and makes up all scenarios of god and universe, but the conscious that speak are the minority because more humans die before 10 than live longer and out of the few that do have time to make up their stories of gods and universe there are very few that dwell on it ,because of nature’s drive to have them reproduce
If one doesn’t have all the info and doesn’t have all the numbers in the formula then one and one will always be separate and never joining numbers that mean nothing
There is a lot more human logic and science i could bull people with ,but in the end our brains are not capable of understanding the massiveness of universe and gods
What the big question is -Why does the universe only want the fewer conscious to know it is here?
THE UNIVERSE WANTS SOMETHING OF intelligence TO KNOW OF IT’S existence BUT DOESN’T CARE WHO OR HOW MANY KNOW JUST TO BE KNOWN IS ALL IT WANTS–WHY? WHY?

If you only fogus on what the fewer conscious say you miss out on most of the true questions of the meaning of the universe, not that a human will be able to answer ,but it is better than living in a world of dizzy
YOU ARE A GOOD THINKER- Nissim nice to talk with you

It’s nice to talk with you as well Wayne.

You seem to be troubled by the fact that not too many people are given the chance to even think about the meaning behind the universe. And you wonder why a power such as God would even care what we thought, or what we did, especially since there are so few of us, and even fewer who are even able or inclined to think of such things.

For me, it helps to put myself in God’s shoes, and to see if I would do anything differently. The more I think about it, the more I come to conclusion that He had very few alternatives in what He did, and that what He did, He did with purpose.

Let’s assume that He wanted not only to create, but to create something which would be capable of meaning something beyond the suface reality of appearance.
First of all, anything you create would have to be balanced by its opposite, because only opposites give each other definition. So, for example, if you wanted to create love, you probably would have no choice but to create hate. If you create caring, you would also create indifference, and so forth.

Using this line of thinking, if you created people who care about these sort of issues, you would also create people who couldn’t give a damn about them, so that each side could help define the other. The world, therefore, is carefully balanced with a full menu of opposites.

In terms of why He would care about us, even though we constitute a tiny planet, I would say that it was not easy for Him to create us, because to a certain extent, we are a reflection of Him, at least as compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, in that we can think, we can ascertain His presence, and like Him, we too can create.

Therefore, it would seem to me that He would care, because the outcome of our stay here on this good earth would either confirm to Him the efficacy of His good works, or would instead point up to His failures, at least when it came to creating us.

I don’t want to seem too egocentric. I realize that our planet is like a grain of sand on the ocean floor, and as I said before, there are probably a lot of conscious creatures out there. But in many ways we do embody the potentiality for meaning, which I think is at the heart of His intent in creating us and the rest of the universe.

So I don’t think that the numbers of thinking people is what this is all about, but rather the possibility that a select few of those people can find a way to realize the potential for meaning that was God’s intent. We would have to think about it, and put it into practice, for it to make a difference.

Nice to hear from you again
I find your writing and your reasoning well thought out, but you and i are a million miles away on the purpose of fewer conscious humans, because as i see it there has to be equality and purpose to all life whether it knew it was here or not
No male god needs anything from a life form that doesn’t even know if the god is energy ,or chemistry, or just an electrical thought
I see you have a traditional thought of god, brought on by the stronger thinkers that formed your mind at a young age
My thoughts go a lot farther than what i write here ,so i won’t bore people because their minds being formed in a different direction
Nissim i like sensitive people like you, who are good listeners and are always thinking of the good of all humans –Take Care–WAYNE
